This intimate concert features rarely-performed Medieval and contemporary music for women’s trio and quartet. The figure of Mary serves as the focal point, as contemplative music of the middle ages is seamlessly matched with music of the late twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The program includes anonymous works from the fourteenth century, as well as music by Hildegard\u00a0von\u00a0Bingen, Leonel\u00a0Power, Maurice\u00a0Durufl\u00e9, Gavin\u00a0Bryars, Ivan\u00a0Moody, and John\u00a0Tavener.<\/p>

Admission to all three performances is free of charge. Donations will be accepted.<\/p>

To celebrate the 450th anniversary of the birth of Claudio\u00a0Monteverdi, Zephyrus presents a concert of music by the revolutionary composer who changed the course of music history.\u00a0 The centerpiece of the program is the stunning\u00a0Missa\u00a0in\u00a0illo\u00a0tempore<\/strong><\/i>, which Monteverdi published in the same volume as his famous Vespers setting, and which he intended as a demonstration of his mastery of traditional Renaissance counterpoint.\u00a0 A collection of his finest motets rounds out the program.\u00a0 For the Charlottesville performance, Zephyrus will be joined by the Washington\u00a0Cornett\u00a0and\u00a0Sackbutt\u00a0Ensemble, baroque violins, and organ.<\/p>
